An Evening with Author Geoffrey Kelly

Spire Center

6pm

The True Story of the World's Largest Art Heist, As Told By the FBI Agent Who Investigated The Case. Thirteen Perfect Fugitives - The True Story of the Mob, Murder, and the World's Largest Art Heist. On March 18, 1990, thirteen works of art were plucked from the walls of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston by two subjects posing as police officers. Over the next eighty-one minutes, they stole some of the world's most valuable artwork, including a rare Vermeer and Rembrandt's only known seascape; a total loss estimated at over $1 billion. For more than two decades, Geoffrey Kelly, one of the original members of the FBI's elite Art Crime Team, was the lead investigator into the heist. Rather than working the case as a traditional stolen property crime, he framed it as a fugitive investigation. Thirteen fugitives, to be exact. In this captivating true crime story, Geoffrey Kelly shares his insights and theories about the case, and recounts his journey to apprehend those thirteen perfect fugitives.

Burial Hill History Tour Series - Homespun Independence: Plymouth Women in the Revolution

Pilgrim Hall Museum

1pm

Homespun Independence: Plymouth Women in the Revolution with Dr. Donna Curtin and the Mercy Otis Warren Society. How did patriotic women in Plymouth show support for their country's cause? Reviving the homespun movement that had swept the country before the war during the non-importation crisis, local women took to their spinning wheels, helped provide supplies for Continental soldiers and sailors, and limited consumption at home as ways to feel nationly. The Plymouth Antiquarian Society and Pilgrim Hall Museum partner in a free public tour series of Plymouth's historic Burial Hill. Each first Saturday of the month, a thematic tour of the ancient burying ground will reveal facets of Plymouth's evolving story over generations. Please plan to wear comfortable walking shoes, as terrain may be uneven. In the event of inclement weather, please check the Pilgrim Hall Museum Facebook page for cancellation/postponement info.

Carbon Leaf

Spire Center

8pm

Carbon Leaf's fifteenth studio album, Time is the Playground, is both a call to action and an embrace of the moment. Marrying nostalgic storytelling to nuanced, folk-infused indie rock, the Richmond, Virginia band embroiders heartfelt melody and harmony with acoustic and electric instrumentation to create a 12-song rumination on time, love and personal growth that's equal parts urgent epiphany and contented exhalation. Originally formed as a college cover band in 1992 and with over 3,500 famously enthused live shows together, Carbon Leaf helped to define the aughts indie rock that they ultimately outgrew and outlasted. They first earned national recognition with The Boxer, a song that won the American Music Awards 2002 New Music Award and made Carbon Leaf the first unsigned band to perform before millions on the AMAs.

Paul Thorn

Spire Center

8pm

When it comes to songwriting, less is more, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn, who's spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he's targeting heads, hearts, hips or the occasional funny bone, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras. Thorn's new album, Life is Just A Vapor, contains some beauties: life is a vapor, let's live it while we can; tough times don't last, but tough people do; any mountain up ahead is just a hill. They're words of advice, comfort, support, encouragement, often meant to uplift, especially in times of struggle.
